Joyce Chen and her husband fled China in 1949 when the Communists took over, and settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She opened several restaurants in the Boston area, and also began writing Chinese cookbooks and hosting a cooking show on public television. Chen is credited with popularizing Mandarin Chinese food in the United States.
She later developed a line of Chinese cooking utensils, so that others could learn to cook the cuisine she so loved, with the proper tools. Today the Joyce Chen line continues to provide cooks with just what they need to create delicious Asian dishes.
